Deadline: This announcement and our acceptance of new applications will remain open until all existing Director positions are filled.

It’s important that you understand what we expect of all FCAA Directors.

Here are the essentials of what we expect:

  • Be a current member of the National FCAA organization.  This means that membership must be renewed annually and kept current. If you are not already an FCAA Member, it’s easy to join! You may join by visiting www.FosterCareAlumni.org and clicking "Join"

  • A clear dedication to support and advance alumni of foster care.

  • Give a financial gift to the National FCAA organization. Gifts of all sizes are welcome.  The idea here isn’t the amount of the donation, it’s that all of our Directors contribute. All Directors are required to give a financial contribution each year whether it’s $5, $50 or $5,000.

  • Serve as an Ambassador from the FCAA Board to donors, contributors, and the public. The Board expects Directors to ably represent the organization to potential or actual donors and to the community in professional ways.

  • Participate in monthly Board of Director meetings.  The Board expects attendance at all 12 monthly meetings.  These meetings are currently scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of each month from 3 – 5 PM Pacific Time, 6 – 8 PM Eastern Time. Illness, family and other challenges are acceptable reasons for missing meetings.  However, if a Director must miss a meeting, the Chair and/or Vice-Chair must be contacted prior to the Board meeting so that the Chair can work to establish meeting quorums.

  • Participate and contribute to a minimum of one Board Committee.  We have a wide range of committees including Marketing & Communications, Policy & Advocacy, Chapter & Member Engagement, Resource Development, Finance, and Governance. Starting in a Director’s second year of service, we encourage (but do not require) Directors to Chair a Board Committee. Committees meet, on average, once a month.

  • Serve as an active Liaison from the FCAA National Board to at least one state or local chapter.  This means phone or e-mail contact with that chapter a minimum of once per quarter.

  • Attend at least one All-Chapter phone call per year. (This is

  • Attend the annual Board Retreat.  The Board devotes significant resources to the annual in-person retreat and the retreat is planned months in advance. All Directors are needed and expected to attend for the duration of the retreat.  Retreats will be planned with the calendars of all Directors in mind, although conflicts will sometimes arise.  Directors are excused from the annual retreat only for illness, family emergencies, or professional requirements.

  • Complete a “Conflict of Interest” Statement annually.

  • Be mentored during your first year on the Board and mentor new Board Directors afterwards.

  • Participate in an annual, instructive and supportive review of Board contributions and service.

  • Allot an average of 8 – 10 hours of time per month for the monthly Board meeting, committee service, All-Chapter call and other Board activities.
